«Lićviny» (also commonly known as The Litwins, Ліцвіны or Ліцьвіны) — so medieval people called Belarussians and eastern Lithuanians — the inhabitants of the Great Lithuanian Principality (Grand Duché Lithuanien • Ruthène • Prusse • Samogite or Magnus Ducatus Lithuaniæ et alii).
Wide use of almost forgotten musical instruments is the main peculiarity of this group.
«Lićviny’» repertoire consists of folk songs, ritual and dance music pieces. Genuine folk pieces and folklorized borrowings. Tunes survived from Middle Ages and those appeared in XIX and XX centuries.
An imprescriptible part of «Lićviny’» stage appearance are also traditional clothes. Some of them genuine, others are elaborated by «Lićviny’» under guidance of the best experts — investigators and worked out by the best makers. Creating their image, «Lićviny» avoid theatrical effectivness.
Their image is that of young village musicians which have come to contemporary stage from the remote and patriarchaic 1900-1910 years.
